A problem found regarding the Microsoft Surface 128GB tablet with Windows 8 Pro has been reported, and Microsoft has responded with a solution.
Last week, as addressed on Microsoft Answers, member LeoNot posted the question.
"The problem is simple: let the device go into sleep/standby. It won't wake up," LeoNot wrote. "I can feel a vibrate when I push the Windows button, but that's it."
The 128GB Surface with Windows 8 Pro owner added that he forced a hard reboot by holding down the power button for 10 seconds in order to gain access to the tablet again.
"I have had it work, but it seems to have once again broken," LeoNot continued, noting the sleep function is very important to him when using the device.
LeoNot addressed that the problem was unrelated to any updates, occurred multiple times, and has happened with and without the charger connected.
A solution has been provided.
1. Open Device Manager from the Control Panel or however you normally open it,
2. Expand Network Adapters and double click Marvell Avastar 350N,
3. Choose the Power Management tab and make sure the checkbox is checked for allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
Although LeoNot said he was up-to-date with the latest updates, Microsoft provided a March update just a few days before his question.
The Surface with Windows 8 Pro March Update is the first following its debut in February. The fixes and improvements include:
- Fixes to Wi-Fi reliability allowing for better roaming and improvements to "Limited" connectivity scenarios,
- Windows To Go feature is enabled,
- Improved onscreen keyboard detection synchronization when going in and out of sleep.
Surface tablet owners can manually install the updates by following the five steps below:
1. Open "PC Settings," by swiping in from right edge (or, if using a mouse, point to upper-right corner of screen)
2. Tap or click "Settings,"
3. Tap or click "Change PC settings,"
4. Under PC settings, tap or click "Windows Update,"
5. Tap or click "Check for Updates."
