The much-anticipated HTC One has been delayed until April due to component shortages, HTC said.
"The new HTC One will roll out in the UK, Germany and Taiwan next week and across Europe, North America and most of Asia-Pacific before the end of April. We appreciate our customers' patience, and believe that once they have the phone in their hands they will agree that it has been worth the wait," HTC told Wired.
The company admitted to the Wall Street Journal that it has been unable to source enough parts for the new camera on the One. "Our friends in the media have been asking why there has been a delay in shipments for the new HTC One, whether there is a component shortage. There is some shortage, because the phone's camera was designed specifically for us, and production cannot be ramped up so quickly," Benjamin Ho, Chief Marketing Office for HTC, said.
The HTC One's camera is a gamble for the company. It has only a 4 megapixel resolution, but HTC says these "UltraPixels" are larger and can collect 300 percent more light than conventional camera lenses.
Last week, unnamed sources at HTC said the company was no longer being prioritized by suppliers, after HTC was unreliable in its order forecasts during last year's sales slump.
The HTC One features a 1.7 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, 2 GB of RAM, a 4.7-inch 1920x1080 pixel widescreen Super LCD 3 display, a 4 megapixel "Ultrapixel" camera with enhanced low-light sensitivity with 1080p HD video, up to 64 GB of internal storage and runs Android 4.1.2.
