Following Samsung's admission that the company is developing a smart watch, Google has confirmed their intentions to work on the product.

According to a Financial Times report, Google is producing a smart watch based in their Android division. The report, provided through "a person briefed on the project," stated Google has had a strong interest in developing the smart watch. The idea by Google is evident based on a patent filing from 2011.

"A smart-watch can include a wristband, a base, and a flip up portion. The base can be coupled to the wristband and include a housing, a processor, a wireless transceiver, and a tactile user interface, " reads the  October 2011 patent filing with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office

In addition, the user interface can be built to provide interaction between the user and the smart watch.

"Further, the flip up portion can include: a top display exposed when the flip up portion is in the closed position, and an inside display opposite the top display," the patent abstract noted. "The inside display can be concealed when the flip up portion is in the closed position and be exposed when the flip up portion is in the open position."

The reports of Google developing the smart watch come after Samsung confirmed their smart watch plans.

"We've been preparing the watch product for so long," said Samsung's Mobile Business Executive Vice President Lee Young Hee. "We are working very hard to get ready for it. We are preparing products for the future, and the watch is definitely one of them."

Hee did not specify on possible specifics on the smart watch.
