The next Android update is rolling out for Verizon's Motorola DROID 4 owners.
The folks from Verizon Wireless have confirmed the software upgrade for the Motorola smartphone under the name 98.72.18.XT894.Verizon.en.US. The update includes an upgrade to Android operating system 4.1, also coined as Jelly Bean.
Both Verizon and Motorola "encourage" users to download the upgrade, which includes the following improvements and enhancements.
Google Now: "Just the right information at just the right time. Get today's weather before you start your day and know when the next train will arrive as you're standing on the platform. Cards appear throughout the day automatically."
Notifications: "Take action directly from the notifications panel. Send emails, return calls, share photos and more. Notifications are expandable and you scan multiple emails, see event details or full images and more."
Smart Keyboard: "More accurate and relevant dictionaries have been implemented. Jelly Bean's keyboard guesses the next word before you type it and voice typing now works even when you don't have a data connection. Text-to-Speech capabilities have been improved."
Voice Search: "Sometimes you'd rather just speak your search query. Android lets you search the web with your voice, and it's convenient for getting quick answers. It speaks back to you and is powered by the Knowledge Graph, bringing you precise answers and ranked search results."
Additional enhancements, as part of the Android Jelly Bean upgrade, are the ability to move between Home screens with "intuitive" graphics and smoother transitions, better touch responses, improved data and voice connectivity, Back Up Assistant Plus and Visual Voicemail improvements, and Sling and MOG application preloads removed.
The 356MB update download will reportedly take 35 to 60 minutes with an additional 15 to 20 minutes to finish the installation.
