The long awaited HD remake of Final Fantasy 10, first announced for the PlayStation 3 in 2011, appears to be in the process of finally seeing the light of day, and with a surprise bonus attached as well. Final Fantasy 10-2 will also be released with the original game, all on the same blu-ray disk. The games will also appear for the PlayStation Vita, though both will be available as separate releases.
This information comes from a leak from next week's issue of the magazine Jump, via the website Gematsu. Square Enix has refused to comment on any rumors or speculation, so this information cannot be confirmed by the developer. However, considering the game was first announced almost two years ago, Square Enix would have to deliver some sort of new information about the game at some point. Looks like the game will be coming in 2013, or so it appears.
Final Fantasy 10 was first released in 2001, and the sequel was released in 2003. Both received large amounts of critical and commercial success, thus demand for a remake of the games is very high. Considering the large amount of HD remakes and collections of older franchises, such as Ratchet and Clank and Sly Cooper, it is only a matter of time until we see remakes of other Final Fantasy games as well. Square Enix is also working on a HD collection for the popular Kingdom Hearts series.
Until we get official information about the Final Fantasy 10/10-2 HD collection, this could very well be more false hope for fans. But it seems that the cat's out of the bag, so readers can expect confirmation (or denial) from the developer soon.
