Microsoft has issued an update to both variants of its Surface tablets.

Microsoft Community has confirmed that a March Update for the Surface with Windows RT and Surface with Windows 8 Pro were provided.

The update for the Surface with Windows RT features more improvements than its fellow Surface brother. The update for the Surface with Windows RT include fixes to the following:

- Fixes to Wi-Fi reliability allowing for better roaming and improvements to "Limited" connectivity scenarios,

- Resolves issues with integrated volume button,

- Improved Type and Touch cover typing experience on soft surfaces and when devices and keyboard are lying flat,

- Resolves issue with random muting,

- Trackpad performance improvements.

The March Update for the Surface with Windows RT is the third update to feature a fix for Wi-Fi connectivity. Dating back to the December Update, a fix was made on "limited" Wi-Fi connectivity and similar situation was addressed in the February update.

The Surface with Windows 8 Pro March Update is the first following its debut last month. The fixes also include a Wi-Fi update. Additional improvements include:

- Fixes to Wi-Fi reliability allowing for better roaming and improvements to "Limited" connectivity scenarios,

- Windows To Go feature is enabled,

- Improved onscreen keyboard detection synchronization when going in and out of sleep.

Surface tablet owners can manually install the updates by following the five steps below:

1. Open "PC Settings," by swiping in from right edge (or, if using a mouse, point to upper-right corner of screen)

2. Tap or click "Settings,"

3. Tap or click "Change PC settings,"

4. Under PC settings, tap or click "Windows Update,"

5. Tap or click "Check for Updates."

The update came days before a Bloomberg report stated that the Surface tablet series, including the Surface with Windows RT and Surface with Windows 8 Pro, had only sold 1.5 million units. The alleged number of sales come from "people with knowledge of the company's sales," and is considered to be a "slow start" in Microsoft's bid to become a player in the tablet market.

The three insiders, remaining anonymous, revealed that Microsoft ordered three million Surface with Windows RT tablets but have sold a little more than a million while approximately 400,000 units of the Surface with Windows 8 Pro were sold.

The Surface with Windows RT is priced at $499 for the 32GB-tablet only variant $599 for the 64GB tablet-only variant. Customers who want to add a black Touch Cover need to pay an additional $100. The Surface with Windows 8 Pro is priced at $899 for the 64GB model while the 128GB model is $999.
