The Samsung Galaxy S4 made its debut in Times Square last week, but specifics are still hard to come by.
Now there may be a new hint at the S4's price: some fine print on the Samsung website could indicate the S4 will actually be cheaper than the Apple iPhone 5.
Samsung is giving away 48 Galaxy S4s as part of its "Cut To the Front of the Line" sweepstakes. Under the legalese fine print, Samsung lists the available prizes.
"First Prizes: 48 First Prizes will be awarded, each consisting of a Samsung Galaxy S® 4 mobile device. Approximate Retail Value ("ARV"): $579."
While that just a short blurb meant to cover all the bases in case some overzealous sweepstakes participant decides to sue Samsung, it is the price the company set for the phone without subsidy or a contract.
That actually makes it cheaper than an unsubsidized iPhone 5, which runs $649.
Of course, price doesn't necessarily reflect build quality, call reception or aesthetics, nor even the price of the internal components, but it could be a sign that Samsung is aiming to price the S4 for a wider market, maybe $199 with a two-year contract.
With all the new features on the S4, pundits have speculated it could run as much as $249 or $299 at its U.S. launch sometime in the second quarter.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 features an eight-core Exynos 5 Octa processor, 2 GB of RAM, a 5-inch 1920x1080 Full HD AMOLED display at 441 ppi, a 13 megapixel rear-facing camera with 1080p HD video, a 2 megapixel front facing camera, internal storage between 16 and 64 GB, an SD card slot that can accommodate an additional 64 GB, a polycarbonate body, Smart Pause and floating touch tech and runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
