Game developer American McGee is currently asking fans, are you interested in seeing a third game in the Alice series? And if so, would you potentially back the game's development on the crowdfunding site Kickstarter?

Posting on Facebook. McGee asked,

1) If we could get the rights from EA, would you play Alice 3?

2) If you'd play Alice 3, would you back it on Kickstarter?

3) If you said yes to those two things, make some noise - I'm trying to gauge interest in case I happen to discuss this with EA during GDC in two weeks. The more interest there is, the more seriously they'll take the conversation.

As he states in point three, McGee hopes to propose the crowdfunding idea to EA at GDC in just a couple of weeks. So far, the response to this idea on Facebook has been fairly positive.

Last year, McGee said he had an idea for a third Alice game that would complete the overarching story. His big concept for the next installment was,  "Remember when Neo figured out he could mess with the Matrix and reality?"

McGee has gained something of a reputation as a one-hit wonder. Despite helping to create classics such as Wolfenstein 3D, Doom II, and Quake early in his career, McGee has struggled to find a rhythm developing his own games. After helming the original Alice, McGee found himself behind a string of duds, before finally returning to the series in 2011.

Unfortunately the sequel, Alice: Madness Returns, was not very favorably received by critics, and did not perform so well with consumers either. This history, coupled with his decade long insistence on slapping his name on every game title, has made American McGee a polarizing figure in the game development world.

With the poor sales numbers on his last game with EA, it seems unlikely that they would back a sequel. However, if McGee can convince them to let go of the rights to what they might see as a dying brand, he might just be able to get this game together via crowdfunding. It will really depend on how much noise his fans can make between now and GDC.
