The fourth game in the popular Saints Row series is coming August 20, and will offer players the wildest game in the series to date.
The game will continue the story of the Third Street Saints, who have expanded so far in power that the head of the gang has been elected President of the United States. If that was not over-the-top enough, aliens invade the Earth, and kidnap the Saints into "bizarro-Steelport simulation," according to the announcement trailer. Furthering the wackiness of the plot, the Saints will have to use superpowers in order to free mankind from the aliens.
Originally published by THQ, Saints Row 4 is being developed by Volition Inc, and published by Deep Silver, the new owner of the series after THQ declared bankruptcy. The series was bought for $22.3 million.
Saints Row: The Third was suppose to have an expansion entitled Enter the Dominatrix, but after the expansion was cancelled aspects of it were added to the fourth game. A representative for Deep Silver has assured fans of the series through Joystiq that the fourth game will not just be the cancelled DLC packaged as a new full game.
"That expansion was cancelled and elements of it were rolled into Saints Row 4...There will be a director's cut of Enter the Dominatrix released as DLC when SR4 comes out."
While the Saints Row series is know for cartoonish, wacky action and open-world exploration, the fourth game promises to take this concept to the extreme. Now with aliens and superheroes added to the mix, the Third Street Saints will have a host of insane new situations to get themselves out of. Look for the game August 20 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
