An Android update is on its way for the Sony Xperia S.
The Xperia S, which made its release in Feb. 2012, featured the Android operating system version 2.3, known as the Gingerbread, and has since been able to upgrade to the Ice Cream Sandwich version 4.0.4, but now a Jelly Bean update is on its way.
According to a tweet by the German account of the Sony Xperia, a Twitter user asked when the Xperia S update to Android version 4.1 is. The Sony Xperia DE account replied back in German but a translation has been provided, stating, "end of March, we will begin the rollout of Android 4.1 for the Xperia S. [CS]"
While no specific release date has been provided, it is also unclear if the release will be rolled out first in Germany or simultaneously worldwide to all Xperia S owners.
The timing is also crucial for Sony as several Android updates have rolled out including the HTC One X, Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, Samsung Galaxy S3, Samsung Galaxy S2, and fellow Sony smartphone Xperia TL.
A further reason why timing is crucial for the Xperia S is the launch of the Galaxy S4 by Samsung, which is expected to begin a full release in April.

According to AndroidGeeks, three other set of Xperia smartphone are also awaiting Jelly Bean updates, the Xperia U, Xperia P, and Xperia TX.
The Xperia S features a screen size of 4.3-inches, a screen pixel resolution of 1,280x720 with 342 pixels per inch, 32GB internal storage with 1GB of RAM, NFC, installed with Bluetooth version 2.1, 12-megapixel rear-facing camera with 4,000x3,000 pixels, front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera, 1,750 mAh battery capacity, standby time up to 420 hours and talk time up to eight hours and 30 minutes.
