Reliable leaker Eldar Murtazin says the upcoming release of the Samsung Galaxy S3 will spur the company to update the hardware on the Galaxy S3 as well.

"But you can also tell you about the update SGS3, this is not about SGS4 story? in a word -- the screen (yes), the wireless charging, 2400 mAh," Murtazin tweeted on Tuesday.

That's translated from the Russian, of course, so the syntax is a bit garbled, but Murtazin says the S III's already impressive screen should get an upgrade later this year, maybe to the environmentally friendly PHOLED display expected to be on the S IV.

The battery also gets upgraded from the current 2100 mAh to 2400, and it looks like the S III could be getting built-in wireless charging, though the latest rumors say that feature will be available on the S IV but will come as a separate purchase.

Samsung has upgraded old hardware before, offering the Galaxy S Plus, an update to the Galaxy S, just after it introduced the Galaxy S II.

Of course, Galaxy S III users aren't all going to run out and buy the updated phone, but it's a nice option for people who don't need the latest tech but still want something new. And perhaps people with mobile protection plans can get the upgraded version as a replacement from their provider if their S III is broken or stolen.

Murtazin isn't a Samsung employee, and there's no guarantee his information is correct, but he's been right before. He correctly announced the Mar. 14 Times Square launch date for the Galaxy S IV a week before Samsung made it official. Murtazin says Samsung doesn't want to announce the update now, and that makes sense.

Why do anything to draw attention away from the big reveal on Thursday?
