Leaked scans from Japan's CoroCoro magazine revealed that a new Pokemon game was heading to the Wii U's eShop. Earlier today, it was also revealed that the game will be featuring a set of collectible figurines, which can be used to add new characters to the game.

Similar to Skylanders, Pokemon Rumble U will allow players to purchase the toys, then place them on the console's NFC pad to have them appear in the game world. This will be the first game to make use of the Wii U's NFC feature, and unlike Skylanders, will not require an additional peripheral to dock the figures on.

Even more interestingly, you'll be able to level up the characters, with their data being stored on the toys themselves.

According to the game's story, the toy Pokemon were lost after falling into a river. They now have to get back to the Toy Shop, battling evil creatures along the way.

So far, six standard figurines and one special one have been announced. The first to be revealed is the iconic Pikachu; no surprise there. The game will also feature all 649 numbered Pokemon, support for up to four players at once, and battles with over 100 of the creatures on the field at the same time.

Pokemon Rumble U will be launching on Japan's Wii U eShop on April 24 for 1800 Yen, approximately $19. Each of the toys will cost around 200 Yen each, roughly coming out to be a fairly reasonable $2.

Nintendo hasn't officially announced a North American or European release, but considering the international popularity of Pokemon, it seems very unlikely that the game won't be making its way to Western audiences in the near future.

If you can read Japanese, more information on the game can be found at Nintendo's official site here.
