Recently, Sprint customers were disappointed to hear that the mobile carrier wouldn't be offering the BlackBerry Z10 at all, opting to wait for the QWERTY keyboard-enabled Q10. But a new rumor says Sprint will actually be getting an updated version of the Z10 later this year.
"The No. 3 U.S. carrier plans to launch an all-touch BlackBerry-10-powered device in the second half of the year, according to a source familiar with the situation. The device is a follow-on handset to the Z10, rather than just a slightly modified version of the initial all-touch phone being sold by Sprint's rivals," writes AllThingsD.
"That device is now expected to hit Sprint around midyear, with the new touch model slated for sometime in the second half of the year."
Though the source AllThingsD quotes is unnamed, TheVerge later confirmed the rumor on their own. "We can independently corroborate a report from AllThingsD this afternoon that Sprint does intend to carry a full-touch BlackBerry 10 phone in 2013 - but not until the second half the year. Our sources describe Sprint's model as 'a version 2.0' of the Z10; a BlackBerry executive has previously said to expect 'at least' six BlackBerry 10 models this year, so it's reasonable to think that one of those could be a refreshed version," writes The Verge.
Officially, Sprint is still passing up the Z10 in favor of the Q10, but perhaps Sprint customers have been clamoring to get in on the BlackBerry bonanza earlier.
The BlackBerry Z10 features a 1.5 GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 plus processor, 2 GB of RAM, a 4.2-inch 1280x768 display, an 8 megapixel camera with 1080p HD video, 16 GB of internal storage and runs the newly revamped BlackBerry 10 operating system. No word yet on what kind of changes Sprint's version 2.0 might offer.
