With Sam Mendes out of the next James Bond film many directors have been rumored as possible candidates.
Contenders include Kathryn Bigelow and Martin Campbell. The Academy Award winner Bigelow has had a long run in the action genre and has led her films to acclaim. Indiewire recently stated that if Bigelow was picked she would give a female perspective to the series especially in the light of Judi Dench's departure as M. They also stated that "she could turn Craig's Bond into a more interesting blunt instrument -- obsessive, conflicted, yet still as unpredictable and as dangerous as hell."
However Bigelow has not commented about the possibility and she has a planned third film with Mark Boal to complete her War trilogy.
Speculations about having Martin Campbell return to the Bond series has also taken off. He revived the genre twice with Pierce Brosnan in "Goldeneye" and with Daniel Craig in "Casino Royale. "The Playlist stated that "he knows Bond inside and out and is comfortable with the extraordinary demands of the machinery; the fanboys love him; and Sean Connery recommended that Craig stick with him for the duration of his tenure."
However like Bigelow, Campbell has failed to comment and he is currently working on "Reckless" for TV.
Bigelow last directed the Oscar winning film "Zero Dark Thirty" and won her first Academy Award for "The Hurt Locker." Martin Campbell helmed the "Green Lantern" and then turned to TV for "Last Resort."
Recently Danny Boyle stated that he is not interested in directing a James Bond film because it is too big and it does not suit his character or the type of film he likes to make.
The last James Bond film "Skyfall" received 5 Academy Award nominations and won 2 for Adele Adkin's Song "Skyfall" as well as Sound Editing. "Skyfall was also the recipient of 2 BAFTA awards including Best British Film.
Daniel Craig is slated to reprise the role of Bond with Ralph Fiennes and Ben Whishaw in the 24th film. John Logan will write the script and the movie is set to launch in 2014.
