NVIDIA has announced that PhysX and APEX support will be available for the PlayStation 4. Both development kits will be available to developers wishing to use them to create graphics for the system, which is expect to launch by the end of the year.
Mike Skolones, product manager for PhysX, had this to say to Slashgear concerning the move to next-gen console.
"Great physics technology is essential for delivering a better gaming experience and multiplatform support is critical for developers...with PhysX and APEX support for PlayStation 4, customers can look forward to better games."
NVIDIA has stated that over 150 games and over 10,000 developers use PhysX already. Borderlands 2, Mirror's Edge, Metro 2033, and the Batman Arkham series use NVIDIA technology create their graphics. All the games listed are very well praised for their graphics, and the PlayStation 4 promises to deliver even more stunning graphical achievements from the technology.
PhysX and APEX are designed to maximize hardware acceleration in both graphics cards and processors. This allows designers to make more realistic human models, clothes that react naturally to wind and body movements, and make explosions more realistic in games.
With the raw power of the PlayStation 4, it makes sense for Sony to reach out to NVIDIA for use of their technology. With the PlayStation 4's ability to create amazing graphics and beautiful scenes, this announcement will allow the company to push the envelop artistically. While the article does not mention if any games being developed for the system will use PhysX or APEX, it goes without saying that the NVIDIA technology will have an impact on the system when it is launched at the end of this year.
