Apple is offering a cheaper priced 21.5-inch iMac, however, the offer is only for a specific crowd.
The iMac has a 21.5-inch screen and a 3.3GHz dual-core Intel Core i3 and is available for $1,099. The iMac has 1,920x1080 pixel resolution with 4GB memory, 500GB hard drive, and Intel HD graphics 4000. This iMac, however, is Apple's "education only" model.
The $1,099 iMac is only available for educational institutions rather than for individuals. Potential customers will have to wait 5 to 7 days before the education only iMac is shipped.
In comparison to the regular 21.5-inch iMac, the consumer is saving $200 from the 2.7GHz model and $400 from the 2.9GHz model.
The 2.7GHz model, priced at $1,299, and the 2.9GHz model, priced at $1,499, offer similar specifications to the education-only model. The regular 21.5-inch iMacs offer 8GB of memory, 1,920x,1080 pixel resolution, 1TB for hard drive, and Intel Core i5 among more.
As DigitalTrends noted, a different model is available but $100 more than the education-only model.
"For $1,100, schools and colleges can get a 3.3GHz dual-core Intel Core i3 machine with 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive," reported Trevor Mogg of Digital Trends. "The $1,100 desktop computer happens to be $100 more expensive than the education-only iMac it replaces, which was introduced over 18 months ago. The new machine, however, comes with a faster processor, more RAM and twice as much storage space."
The launch of the education-only iMac is unclear, as Apple did not make a formal announcement about it.
