Smartphone sales were lower than usual, but it did not dent Apple Inc. or Samsung Electronics Co. from maintaining their hold in the market.

According to the latest Canaccord Genuity, their February wireless store surveys saw an increase in LTE smartphone sales, courtesy of Apple's iPhone 5 and Samsung's Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2.

The Canaccord Genuity numbers showcased how various smartphones performed among the top four U.S. mobile carriers.

Apple continued their dominance streak as the top smartphone across AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon since November and in February. The iPhone 5 has been available since late September with prices ranging between $200 and $400.

Samsung's Galaxy S3, however, is featured more among the top four carriers than the iPhone 5 since the Apple smartphone is not offered with T-Mobile.

The Galaxy S3, which is offered with a price tag between $100 and $280, the lowest price coming from Sprint while T-Mobile offers the highest, comes second on AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon carriers. The Galaxy S3 did top the handset models sales for T-Mobile.

The Galaxy Note 2 is also on demand. While it is not in the top three for AT&T, it ranked third with Sprint and Verizon but second with T-Mobile ahead of Google and LG's Nexus 4.

Nokia's Lumia 920 smartphone did place third with AT&T, as it is exclusive with the carrier. The Windows Phone 8 smartphone by Nokia has placed third with the carrier since November.

Overall, Apple's iPhone 5 is the top selling smartphone with three of the four top U.S. carriers. However, as Latinos Post reported, when it comes to the mobile operating systems, Android defeats Apple by a narrow margin.

The Android mobile operating system accounted for 49.4 percent of U.S. smartphone sales while the iOS was a few percentages behind with 45.9 percent. Referring back to the Windows Phone operating system, Microsoft saw an increase in their smartphone sales up to 3.2 percent.

The mobile operating system figures were compiled by Kantar Worldpanel ComTech USA, which touts itself as the largest continuous consumer research mobile phone panel of its kind in the world.
