It seems the Verizon Galaxy Nexus owners will finally get a chance to upgrade their phones to Android 4.2. build JDQ39.
While this is not an official release from Verizon, owners of the phone can head over to Android Police and download the latest version of the operating system now. If you choose to download it, however, it is important to note that your Nexus must be at the official Android 4.1.1 build JRO03O in order to download the 4.2 update. So if you are part of the legions of users who customized the ROM on your phone (and such people, I suspect, would want to download this update), you must revert your phone back to the original settings, which can be found here at the Google Developers page. Then users must flash the newly acquired zip file through a custom recovery, or use the ADB sideload method with a PC, which is discussed at the XDA forums.
The build does signal that Verizon may be getting close to the end of testing, and will be able to release the update to all Galaxy Nexus users soon OTA.
Android 4.2 introduces a new keyboard and camera experience, a new notification tab, and overall better performance for your device. With Verizon Galaxy Nexus owners stuck in the older 4.1.1 build, users have not even been able to enjoy the variety of new features that have come with the 4.2.1 build that has been hitting other carriers and phones. But if Nexus owners are able to leapfrog up to the 4.2 model, then this would be an enormous boon to long suffering Galaxy Nexus owners.
