Facebook, Inc., the world's largest social network, is preparing to unleash a brand new look later this month on March 7.
The 1 billion member network is making adjustments to its "newsfeed" next week in order to spruce up key elements on the website. The web company invited a select group of reporters to check out the new version at a media event located at their California headquarters in Menlo Park.
This will be the latest major makeover for the Facebook newsfeed since September 2011. This also marks the company's second launch of a high-profile product being that it premiered its social search feature in January.
Facebook is making continual efforts to improve its mobile technology now that more members access the site on mobile devices rather than on desktop PCs. According to TechCrunch, the company has been testing new versions of the newsfeed feature in mobile apps. The social network also recently updated their iPhone and Android apps to make them faster to use.
In addition, Facebook has released Poke, a mobile messaging service, along with a free calling to its iPhone Messenger app.
Since making this announcement on March 1, Facebook shares went up almost 2 percent, or 52 cents, $27.77 on Friday afternoon.
Hopefully the new and improved look offers a fix to the glitch that prohibits members from aging past 99 years old. As a result, 104-year-old Marguerite Joseph is forced to lie about her age on her Facebook profile and has been 99 years old on the site for the last two years.
