Beyond: Two Souls fans have gotten a triple helping of updates today, with two new YouTube clips and the title's pre-order bonuses.
Willem Dafoe, an actor with over 90 movie credits including roles in Spider-Man, Finding Nemo, and Platoon, has officially joined the voice cast. Dafoe will be playing Nathan Dawkins, a government scientist.
The game already had some star power going for it, featuring the voice and likeness of Ellen Page, best known for her work in Juno and Inception, as protagonist Jodie Holmes.
Lastly, Sony also announced that the game would be receiving extra pre-order incentives. Anyone who reserves the game at a GameStop (or an EB Games store in Canada) will get an exclusive scene with around 30 minutes of gameplay. They'll also be given an automatic upgrade to the Special Edition of the game, which includes a steelbook case, a behind the scenes video featurette, the game's soundtrack, an exclusive dynamic PS3 theme, and a PlayStation Network avatar bundle.
All of that sounds well and good, but I'm still very concerned whenever a studio announces exclusive story content as a pre-order incentive. Hopefully that won't effect the experience for anyone who purchases it at a later date.
Beyond: Two Souls revolves around a mysterious supernatural entity known as Aiden. Jodie Holmes, Ellen Page's character, is the only known person able to communicate with it. The game follows their 15-year relationship as she attempts to discover what Aiden is, and how he relates to the existence of life after death.
The game is being developed by Quantic Dream, creators of Indigo Prophecy and Heavy Rain. It will hit stores on October 8 of this year.
