The original Motorola DROID RAZR and RAZR MAXX appear to be getting the upgrade to a new operating system soon, as the official beta period begins for the system on the two phones. As reported by Android Community, Motorola is planning to release the new operating program after a successful beta run, hopefully within the next few weeks. This comes after the company has successfully upgraded the RAZR HD and RAZR M to Android 4.1.2.
While there was a brief period around Christmas that some reported getting the upgrade, issues were reported and Verizon acted quickly to pull the plug. Now Motorola is ready to try again with a beta for the Motorola Feedback Network. If all goes successful, RAZR/MAXX owners could be on the same playing field as people who have bought the HD or M variety of the phone.
While the emails going out to potential beta testers do not confirm which version of Jelly Bean they will get, it will most likely be the 4.1.2 version, not the newest 4.2 build of the system. Either way Motorola is committed to upgrading the older models of their phones, as previously reported. With so many different phones rumored for upgrade, it is refreshing for a company to officially put the word out about their plans for upgrades.
While Verizon Galaxy Nexus customers and Sprint LG Optimus G try to figure out if and when the upgrade to Jelly Bean will occur, Motorola users can enjoy knowing that they should have the new system up and running sooner rather than later. RAZR owners should stay tuned for further developments as they happen.
