Verizon has teased customers waiting for an update on the Galaxy Nexus with a possible glimmer of hope over Twitter. On Version's support Twitter account, which can be seen in it's original form over at Android Authority, the following message was posted:
"ianxcom1 Good question! Samsung will push the update directly to your device over the air. Sorry, no release date. But, it will be soon.^LH"
This tweet is addressing an angry customer demanding to know when an update the the phone's operating system will occur.This tweet is rather odd, considering that this would be huge news for Galaxy Nexus owners, who currently have to use Android 4.1.1, even though customers who have the GSM variant of the device are able to use the latest 4.2,1 version of Jelly Bean.
What is also strange is that Samsung will be handling the alleged upgrade, instead of Verizon themselves. As seen here, Samsung as no information about this news, so it puts the validity of this statement into question more so. If Verizon was truly serious about an upgrade, they would have made some sort of official statement, instead of spilling the (jelly) beans over Twitter.
While some may interpret this Tweet as a sign that perhaps Nexus owners will get the next version of Jelly Bean instead of the current one (after all, the tweet does not say what the upgrade will be) it seems as though Verizon has left Galaxy Nexus owners in the dust. After all, the device is a Nexus handset that is quite behind the rest of its brethren, with only the promise of "soon" for an upgrade. Considering how slow these things can take, Verizon customers should not hold their breath while waiting for this information to pan out.
