Sprint LG Optimus G owners have some unexpected news today. It appears that the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update will become available to Sprint LG Optimus G phones sometime in the future. Though Sprint has yet to make an official statement concerning the upgrade, Android Geeks, among others, is reporting that some Sprint customers are currently obtaining the the firmware upgrade.
Keep in mind that this is all unconfirmed so far, and it is very improbable that Sprint would do such a thing without making an announcement first. It is even speculated that LG released the alleged update, which is 474 MB in size.
The Sprint LG Optimus G originally shipped with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich onboard, confusing and irritating some who purchased the phone. A Jelly Bean firmware is available for download manually for those who want the upgrade now, but it requires your phone to be rooted and the device needs to be locked for the update to install correctly. Curious readers can head over to the XDA Forum if they so choose to download Jelly Bean. Nothing is official yet, so Sprint customers should remain cautiously optimistic about obtaining Jelly Bean at the moment, and if you are unsure about manually flashing your device with an "unofficial leak", it's always best to wait for the OTA rollout.
The Optimus G Jelly Bean upgrade will come with an improvement to the LG QSlide feature, as well as the features that come standard on the operating system, such as Google Now, Quiet Time, and Privacy Keeper. Optimus G owners should pay close attention to this news as it develops given the fact that Android rollouts happen in batches and will hit different handsets and regions at different times - the best thing to do is be vigilant.
