With the recent news about the PS4, many are speculating about the potential of the new system, slated to come out by the time the holidays come. While fans can discuss the what they know of the system, developers have much more information concerning the new system. A few developers have come forth and shared their thoughts on the PlayStation 4.
"The Share button has me the most excited," says Insomniac President and CEO Ted Price. "It's visually the most subtle new feature but potentially the most powerful. As most gamers know, hooking up and sharing with your friends is a super-gratifying aspect of gaming today. But it can be a convoluted process depending on the game and the hardware. If it truly does become a one-button press to connect with your friends it'll be a big step forward for games." Sony has the potential to make big steps towards connecting players together in a way beyond trophies or achievements. The Share button will allow friends to instantly connect with others, making it easier for gamers to share highlights and other features with each other.
Stewart Gilray, the CEO of Just Add Water, had this short statement to sum up his feelings on the PS4. "PS4 is a dream. It's as they said: incredibly easy to develop for and extremely powerful...However, as a smallish indie, to us it's not about what we can do, it's about what we can do well."
It can be easy to get caught up in the sheer power the Playstation 4 will be able to use, but it is also refreshing to hear an indie developer discuss how the system works well for those focusing on smaller games.
Tim Sweeney, the founder and CEO of Epic Games, adds: "As the developers of the Unreal Engine, we're passionate about not only building great games, but building them efficiently. PlayStation 4 builds upon PC technology and takes it to the next level, providing a very robust and easy-to-use development environment." Sweeney sums up the general consensus on the PS4 well. Developers are excited to have access to the system, whether they make blockbuster franchises or small, indie games. As the months go by and more games are announced, expect the hype surrounding the system to grow even more intense.
