"Identity Thief" stole back the box office crown during Oscar weekend.
According to Box Office Mojo.com, the Comedy raked in $14 million in its third weekend and now has a lifetime gross of $93.6 million. Despite the 41 percent drop, "Identity Thief" surpassed "Django Unchained ($90.5 million)" as the highest grossing movie of 2013.
"Snitch" debuted at number two with $13 million; action thrillers have had a slow start with such films as "Broken City ($8.3 million)," "Parker ($7 million)," "The Last Stand ($6.3 million)" and "Bullet to the Head ($4.5 million)" flopping at the start of their respective runs. "Escape From Planet Earth" raked in $11 million in its second weekend to take third place while the romance "Safe Haven" finished in fourth with $10.6 million. "A Good Day to Die Hard" finished in fifth after dropping 59.7 percent in its second weekend to just $10 million. It is slated to be the lowest grossing film in the "Die Hard" franchise.
The horror movies "Dark Skies" debuted in the sixth place with $8.85 million. Oscar-nominated film "Silver Linings Playbook" took the seventh spot with $6 million and has now accumulated $107.4 million in 15 weeks. Zombie romance "Warm Bodies" grossed $4.7 million and has now took in a total of $58.2 million in four weeks. Steven Soderbergh's "Side Effects" garnered $3.5 million in the ninth spot while "Beautiful Creatures" had a rough 55 percent drop in its second weekend and only took in $3.4 million.
Academy Award winning best picture "Argo" finished the weekend in 12th place with $1.96 million despite becoming available for DVD and Video-On-Demand.
