After traveling from the Crusades in the Middle East, to Renaissance Italy, to the American revolution, many wondered just where exactly Ubisoft would be taking the next Assassin's Creed. Japan? China? Brazil? It's anyone's guess at this point. According to a new rumor however, the studio is preparing a presentation that will put those rumors to rest.
According to VGLeaks, Ubisoft will be hosting a February 27 event centered around Assassin's Creed. Members of the media were sent invitations with game's logo printed at the top. It should be noted that Ubisoft has made no official comment about the gathering, although several UK sources have confirmed they've received the invitations.
Obviously this doesn't mean that they'll be announcing Assassin's Creed 4, but it doesn't make sense that they would be so cryptic, or go to such lengths, just to announce new DLC or something else small.
Additionally, many believe that the location of the event provides some clues as well. The announcement will take place in a historic building that was bombed by the German Luftwaffe in World War II. That's far from solid confirmation, but after the dramatic shift in time period in Assassin's Creed 3, WWII makes about as much sense as anything. In a recent earnings call, the Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot stated that the next installment in the franchise would feature a new hero, location, and time period. The 1940s would definitely fit that bill.
Other recent rumors have placed the next game in Brazil, China, and a myriad of other locations. Hopefully we'll find out come February 27. Ubisoft has just recently released its latest Assassin's Creed project, the third title's alternate universe DLC, "The Tyranny of King Washington." Given that it was the last news we've gotten on the franchise, the timing of this announcement certainly makes sense.
