Sony's Xperia Z handset has been enjoying some well-earned success in the initial phases of its launch, and the handset is currently set to light other markets on fire. The Xperia Z is now launching in Germany, the United Kingdom, and Russia, with Spain slated to follow soon.
As of now, MVideo in Russia is selling an unlocked, SIM-free version of the Xperia for the cool price of 30,000 rubles (roughly $1,000). Not exactly the cheapest unlocked handset, but other handsets go for around the same price and don't even come with the Full HD display and waterproof features that the Xperia Z offers.
The Xperia Z also hit more regions in Europe, such as Germany and the United Kingdom
Spain will soon follow, on Feb. 25, with its own rollout of the Xperia Z.
The Xperia Z has proved incredibly popular at its outset, moving around 140,000 units through just one carrier during its first week in Japan. The handset has also sold out in France, where a new shipment is expected to arrive on Feb. 28. Other countries such as Ireland and Finland should get their first shipments on Feb. 28.
So what exactly is drawing consumers to the Xperia Z? Well for starters its waterproof. Sony has closed up all the pores in the handset with rubber, allowing the 5-inch smartphone to be dunked in water and survive rather well. In fact, you can even take pictures underwater, bringing us to another one of the Xperia Z's strong points.
Sony has equipped the Xperia Z with a 13-megapixel, 1080p rear-facing camera that has shown itself to be quite worthy of the attention is has been receiving. The camera beats other notable handsets in night video, and comes with a burst-shot mode that can take around 999 pictures in approximately one minute.
Under the hood, the Xperia Z is powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon CPU running Android 4.1.2. Sony is expected to roll out Android 4.2 incredibly soon so that Xperia Z owners can stay on top of the curve.
Will you be purchasing the Xperia Z?
