Mass Effect 3 has had a fairly controversial legacy. Despite being the final entry in one of the most highly regarded game series of all time, many fans did not have kind words to say about the final bit of the story. The outcry over the ending was so furious, that developer Bioware actually released a patch that changed it considerably. However, the damage had already been done, and now many wonder how it may have tainted the Mass Effect legacy.

Regardless, Bioware and its publisher EA have quotas to meet, and the fiasco has not stopped them from continuing to try and sell additional content for the game. So far, two significant portions of downloadable content have been made available for the singleplayer portion of the experience. Without spoiling anything, the ending of the game is fairly conclusive, so these two side stories take place sometime before the final stretch. Both were mildly well received, but neither seemed to have convinced the more bitter demographic to return to the game.

Perhaps noticing this, it now looks like Bioware will be winding down its DLC push with a final installment. By the looks of it though, they're trying to give the game, and Commander Shepard's story, a fitting send-off.

The DLC will be called "Citadel," and will feature a shadowy conspiracy that targets Shepard and his team. The battle to uncover the truth will take players from the, "glamour of the Citadel's Wards to the top-secret Council Archives." More excitingly, it will also feature the return of fan favorite Urdnot Wrex.

The mission will also feature side content in the Silver Coast Casino, Armax Combat Arena, and Shepard's living quarters on the Citadel (perhaps with even more fish to feed). Considering this will be the final bit of Mass Effect, at least in terms of Commander Shepard, Bioware is calling it, "one final chance to see the characters you have known for years and rekindle romances." That's a bit on the nose, but a fair assessment nonetheless.

Citadel will be available on March 5th on the Xbox 360, PC, and PS3 for $14.99, 1200MS points, or 1200 BW points.
