Sure, HTC wowed its audience with its brand new HTC One smartphone that is designed to help it recapture some of the Android market share - but what about its old pride and joy, the HTC One X? Owners of the One X have been patiently waiting for their handsets to be updated to Jelly Bean, and while Jelly Bean has started hitting those devices in certain parts of the world, the update is still nowhere to be seen in America.
It wasn't too long ago that we reported Canadians on both Rogers and Telus networks were lucky enough to have their carriers roll out Android 4.1. It seems that U.K. carrier Three is now joining the club, and beginning to push Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for the One X. As with all Android updates, the rollout will occur in phases, so if your handset hasn't received it yet, don't worry, it should soon. All you have to do is go to Settings and check for a software update.
The update is a pretty decent sized file, so make sure your battery is charged and you are connected to Wi-Fi before attempting to upgrade. After all, it'd be a pity to rack up some data charges in all the excitement.
Android 4.1 Jelly Bean gives One X users improved system performance through Project Butter as well as access to Google's voice assistant, Google Now.
So where does that leave the multitude of One X users on AT&T's network? Sadly, still in the dark. The HTC One XL, which essentially the international LTE variant of the One X, has started receiving the update, and seeing as how the handset is similar to AT&T's One X, there shouldn't be too much longer of a wait. Still, as most Android smartphone owners know, these updates can sometimes take forever, with U.S. carriers being especially notorious for taking their sweet time in satisfying their customers.
Let us know if you have Jelly Bean running on your HTC One X and what you think of it.
