AT&T has announced that it's sending out a new update for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, according to Android Community. The update looks to be a no frills security patch that is now available over the air.
If you have a Galaxy Note 2 and subscribe to AT&T's service, you should already have gotten a notification and prompt to update your device. If you haven't yet, you should soon, as updates can hit different handsets in batches.
According to Android Community, the details of the update say that it's a "chipset security enhancement," which is likely an update to fix the security flaw with the Exynos chipset. This security flaw affected several Samsung devices, including the Note 2, all with either the Exynos 4210 or Exynos 4412 processors. The problem was a kernel exploit was found that allowed users to access the Samsung device's RAM with one click, making it possible for downloaded malicious apps to hide the exploit, gain the permission needed, and root your device without your knowledge.
Over the past few weeks, Verizon and Sprint have rolled out security updates as well. If you haven't gotten a notification and want to get the update now, go to Settings in the Note 2's Menu screen and then click "About phone." You'll also want to be connected to Wi-Fi. After a few minutes, your phablet will reboot and you're good to go.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 had a very successful launch last year, and remains a popular device. The phablet sports a 5.5-inch high definition display, a 1.6GHz Cortex-A9 quad-core processor, a 3100mAh battery, and the S-Pen stylus. The device comes with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box.
