Previously rumored, but recently thought dead, a Nokia Tablet may actually be in the works, if a purported image seen at a Nokia launch event in Pakistan yesterday is accurate.

Nokia was launching the Lumia 620 in Pakistan, when, projected at the side of the stage, a presentation slide displaying a picture of the Lumia 620, a PC running Windows 8, and, in between, a mid-sized screen - perhaps 7-inches - running Windows 8.

What set off speculation was that the mid-sized tablet-looking device had a yellow casing and rounded edges, the Nokia signature look. Of course, this could just be an old image, a prototype, or just something to fill the middle of the "small, medium, large" Microsoft Windows 8 graphic displayed in the slide. After all, there was a PC screen depicted as well, but no one is gossiping about a possible Nokia PC being developed.

But further fanning speculation was a recent interview with Australian Financial Review, where Nokia CEO Stephen Elop has said that they were looking at the idea:

"We haven't announced tablets at this point, but it is something we are clearly looking at very closely," Elop said. "We are studying very closely the market right now as Microsoft has introduced the Surface tablet, so we are trying to learn from that and understand what the right way to participate would be and at what point in time." He also mentioned that Nokia sees potential in both 7-inch and 10-inch tablets.

However, this neither confirms nor denies whether Nokia has a tablet on the way, especially for the Mobile World Congress, which takes place soon, starting February 25.

Nokia watchers would love to see a new tablet introduced at the event, but it's unclear what timetable, if any, the Finnish electronics manufacturer is working under. But that won't stop Nokia lovers from hoping they see something new and exciting in a couple weeks.
