Soon after BlackBerry unveiled its new Blackberry 10 operating system and Z10 and Q10 devices in January, we found out we'd have to wait until March for the Z10 to be released on major U.S. carriers. It now looks like Verizon customers will have to wait a little longer than T-Mobile users.
Three major carriers have confirmed that they will support the Blackberry Z10, including AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless. Right now it's unknown if Sprint will be joining the rest, but apparently T-Mobile is leading the pack, as far as the release of the BlackBerry Z10 goes.
According to Bloomberg, T-Mobile is aiming to be the first U.S. carrier "out of the gate," bringing the Z10 to market with a rumored March 27 release date in T-Mobile's new 4G LTE-enabled lineup.
"The device is more stable than we anticipated," said Frank Sickinger of T-Mobile USA. "If we are able to speed up the launch date, we will do that. Right now it's looking like mid-March."
Other carriers, including Verizon, will likely have a release date sometime in April. The BlackBerry Z10 looks like it will cost $199 at T-Mobile, which is apparently within lines of what Blackberry planned at launch.
The BlackBerry Z10 is the new touchscreen form factor device for BlackBerry. The company announced the Z10 and a more BlackBerry-traditional Q10 (which features the famous BlackBerry qwerty keyboard), along with a new operating system, BlackBerry 10, on January 30.
The event was seen as a last-ditch attempt to re-launch a long-failing smartphone brand, with the company even changing their name from Research in Motion to simply "Blackberry." The Z10, along with Blackberry 10 OS, has gotten a lot of attention since, with a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 4.2-inch touchscreen, and features like video conferencing and screen sharing.
