It turns out the HTC M7 that everyone's been talking about is actually the HTC One, according to SlashGear, who reported a leak from that ever-reliable HTC information source on Twitter, @evleaks.
The marketing team at HTC has decided to make "One" a continuing name in the same way that Apple makes iPhone the one name for each new version of the device.
Ahead of the February 19 unveiling in London and New York City and possible launch on March 8, a lot of rumors have hit the web about the M7, including specs, images, and a video of HTC CEO Peter Chou.
In the video, Chou leads the employees gather at the HTC end of year party in a chant of "HTC - M7 - HTC - M7" before changing the chant to "HTC One!" This video was seen last week on the web, but hardly was noticed for anything other than Chou holding the M7 to take a photo of the crowd. It turns out the chant changeup was a clue to this renaming move.
Going back earlier than last week, we had a list of carriers for the new HTC M7, before that, an actual photograph, and before that, the first rendered image of the M7 which was provided by @EvLeaks.
Chou's chant also confirms that M7 wasn't an entirely wrong name to call the phone all along, but once this leak is confirmed by HTC, we'll be referring to it as the new HTC One or perhaps another shorthand.
The M7 (One) is likely to have a 1.7GHz quad-core processor with 32GB storage and a 13-megapixel camera, running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.
