Sony has begun a rollout of Android Jelly Bean for its Xperia smartphones. This week they're kicking off the rollout for Xperia T and Xperia V handsets, with the Xperia TX to get Android Jelly Bean next month.

The Android operating system is 4.1 Jelly Bean, and along with it comes some new and improved Sony user interface features as well. If you own an Xperia device, you'll get a notification on your phone and be able to download the update over the air, Wi-Fi, or through a computer with Sony's PC Companion or Mac Bridge.

The new Sony software will blend with Jelly Bean for a smooth user experience, according to Sony's blog post.

The robust update will feature updated versions of some Sony Media apps, including WALKMAN, Album and Movies. There's a new intuitive library that lets you view all of your media - pictures, videos, and music - in one place.

There are also more personalization options available in a revamped home screen, which has up to 7 desktop panes for widgets, apps, and actionable notifications. Included with updated home screen is an improved application tray, which should make dragging and dropping applications to the home screen easier.

Sony's cameras will be a little easier to use, with a more intuitive viewfinder , an auto-scene setting option, and a button to switch between the back and front cameras.

Updates for the Xperia P, Xperia J, and Xperia will probably get Jelly Bean sometime next month, according to The Next Web. The Xperia S, Xperia SL, Xperia ion and Xperia acro S will get Jelly Bean a little later than the rest.

If you don't have an Xperia, but are interested in the Xperia Z, this Sony UI update may give indications of what the Xperia Z's UI might be at the time its released.
