Wikipad Inc. announced today that their Wikipad tablet would be available in stores sometime this spring. The Android-powered device that comes with a gamepad, not unlike that of Sony's PS Vita device, wrapped around a tablet, is attempting to bring console style gaming and the world of mobile tablets closer together.

In their release, Wikipad said they plan to price the tablet at $249. The Wikipad will feature a 7-inch display, capable of 1280x800 resolution. It will be running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on an Nvidia Tegra 3 processor with 1GB RAM and 16GB of storage. This should be a great for gaming, as well as other things tablets do, like web surfing, music, and movies, as it can also be used just like any other mobile Android device.

Other specs for the new device include Wi-Fi capability, Bluetooth 4.0, a microSD slot capable of running 32GB of extra storage. For sound, it will have built in stereo, a headphone and mic minijack, and a built in microphone. It has a micro USB charger/data port and a micro-HDMI out port as well. The 4100mAh battery should deliver enough power for hours of gaming on the go.

There was a larger cousin of the Wikipad in development, and it was slated to come out in the fall of last year, but was delayed to get improve the specs. It's still in development, and will feature a 10-inch screen and a heftier asking price of $499, whenever it is finally launched.

According to Kotaku, games for the Wikipad will be available on Google Play, PlayStation Mobile and Nvidia TegraZone online stores.
