Expect to see an updated version of Android Jelly Bean, Android 4.2.2, on phones pretty soon. Today, photos of the enhanced Google operating system running on a Nexus leaked to the web.
Last week, rumors were that Google employees were testing this update to Jelly Bean on their Samsung Galaxy Nexus, as well as Nexus 4, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10 phones. The International Business Times got a hold of one of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus phones running Android 4.2.2, and according to them, the update is mostly a bug fix.
Google hasn't announced what features or fixes Android 4.2.2 may have, but IBT thinks it may fix a Bluetooth streaming issue on the Nexus 7, which causes the device to stutter, among other minor improvements.
According to their sources, Google recently gave their employees access to the Jelly Bean update, with testing only going on last week, so look for Android 4.2.2. to be available later this month or next.
Of course this update is exciting to the Android community, not because of the little improvements it will likely present, but because it is rumored to be the final update of Jelly Bean before the next highly anticipated Android operating system is released. That would be Android 5.0, also being called Key Lime Pie, which Google is expected to unveil later this Spring at the Google I/0 2013 event in May.
The name is not officially confirmed, but all of Google's Android systems have had junk food-related nicknames, in alphabetical order, from the beginning: Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean, and now possibly Android 5 - Key Lime Pie.
