Hours after chief competitor Microsoft took the stage at the Electronic Entertainment Expo, Sony took their turn at the podium to make major announcements for their current generation consoles.
The E3 Press Conference came after news that Sony's stock fell below 1,000 Yen (or $12.79) for the first time since 1984 during trading in Japan on Monday. Despite the negative publicity from the news, Sony kept the conference filled with exciting news about future games and products.
In promoting its new handheld console, the Vita, announced the availability of Hulu Plus, Crackle, and Youtube Apps for the handheld. A few games were announced for the system, most notably Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation. The game is slated for a fall release and will also appear on Sony's Playstation 3 in a bundle package with exclusive content.
Sony also made the announcement of "Wonderbook," an interactive reading tool that will make use of the Playstation Move motion controller. According to the San Francisco Gate, the Wonderbook is a "kind of green screen onto which moving images can be projected, although users will not look at the book itself, but will instead look at its virtual representation on their televisions, while holding the actual object in their hands. Users' gestures are recorded by the PlayStation Eye camera and are used to interact with content inside the book." The first interactive storybook will be "The Story of Spell" with writing from J.K. Rowling and based out of the Harry Potter universe and Rowling's "Potttermore" website.
Sony also announced a plethora of titles for the Playstation 3 including Quantic Dream's Beyond, a new title, based on fifteen years of a girl's life through happy and difficult times, and played by Oscar Nominee Ellen Page (Juno).
There was also more information unveiled for Battle Royale, a game that is inspired by rival Nintendo's "Super Smash Brothers series in which Sony mascot characters from numerous titles battle each other on stages inspired from the Sony universe.
The press conference ended with the reveal of Naughty Dogs' "The Last of Us," a post-apocalyptic third person adventure title. Naughty Dogs is the company behind the successful "Uncharted" series that has been critically acclaimed and has even won Game of the Year Awards.
