Nokia and Microsoft's business relationship is about to change. The balance between Nokia's royalty payments for using the platform and Microsoft's regular investment to secure support for its operating system will tip in the near future, according to a ZDNet report.

In the latest earnings statement Nokia writes, "To date the amount of platform support payments received by Nokia has exceeded the amount of minimum royalty commitment payments to Microsoft. Thus for the remainder of the life of the agreement the total amount of the minimum software royalty commitment payments are expected to exceed the total amount of the platform support payments."

ZDNet extrapolates that "Nokia's Windows Phone Royalties will exceed $1 billion per year in the future" from the data. As Microsoft begins to rake in the profits, Nokia reportedly plans on releasing an upgrade to its Lumia 920 flagship smartphone, equipped with a new camera sensor reminiscent to tech found in the Nokia 808 Pureview device. Known as Project EOS, the photo-friendly phone will likely accompany a new "metal-body" version of the Lumia 920, reports Ubergizmo

The current Nokia Lumia 920 model include a dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 1GB RAM, a 4.5-inch screen, complimented by both an 8.7-megapixel camera and a 'PureView' Camera.
