Research in Motion is about the throw a hail mary. The once dominant company, in a last stand against the overwhelming forces of Apple and Samsung, has decided to go on the offensive in the week leading up to its Jan. 30 launch of the BlackBerry 10 smartphone series.

In a recent statement, RIM announced that it had secured a Super Bowl commercial, while casually revealing a new BlackBerry tablet.

RIM Marketing Chief Frank Boulben notes, "RIM confirms that BlackBerry 10, its new mobile computing platform that will power the next generation of smartphones and tablets, will be featured in a commercial during Super Bowl XLVII. A Super Bowl commercial is a great opportunity to show the re-design, re-engineered and re-invented BlackBerry to tens of millions of consumers on the largest advertising stage of the year."

In other BlackBerry 10 news, the first press photo of the Z10 All-Touch smartphone has leaked, pictured above. So far, we know about the Z10, X10, and N-Series. Also known as the L-Series, the Z10 will reportedly feature a 4.2-inch screen with a 1280x768 display, 16GB of internal storage, 2GB of RAM, and an 1,800mAh battery, a 2MP front camera, an 8MP back camera, single LED flash with auto focus, and 1080p digital recording with 5x digital zoom. The new report almost exactly mirrors rumored specs, aside from a minor difference in the amount of onboard RAM. The L-Series will launch alongside the X10 and N-Series, which carry a traditional keypad, on January 30th.
