It's been a while since Google released the ASUS Nexus 7 tablet, but that doesn't mean that the manufacturers have forgotten about it. ASUS has now released an official dock for the Nexus 7, and it costs around $40. Let's see what it has to offer.

The dock itself isn't much. In fact, Droid Life reports that there is nothing in the box but the small "fine" plastic dock. No cables, nothing. The dock comes with audio and microUSB ports so that owners can go ahead and connect the speakers to the dock instead of the tablet, making the Nexus 7 easier to pick up and go.

Users will be able to connect their Nexus 7s to the dock via the 4-pin connector at the bottom in order to view movies at the optimal angle. It's also the perfect opportunity to take advantage of Android 4.2's DayDream desktop feature.

While it doesn't seem like it may even be worth $40 (plus the shipping), Droid Life does state that "if you are looking for an official dock that still offers plenty of features and still remains under $50, this isn't a bad choice."

A teardown of the Nexus 7 by PsychoRadler (thanks to Android Authority), however, reveals that the dock might not be worth even $40. Apparently, the components add up to around $3. Not exactly what you'd like to hear when buying a piece of plastic to hold your tablet in place.

Still, if you pick up the Nexus 7 dock, let us know what you think of it, and whether you would recommend to a fellow Nexus 7 user.
