LG's Optimus G Pro is not a myth. Japanese carrier NT DoCoMo has announced that the new LG flagship handset will be released (at least in Japan) in April, reports Wired.
Last week we posted a slide that Engadget found from a presentation that had been leaked in Japan, apparently showing the Optimus G Pro superphone in two color variations. Along the sides of the slide were tech specs in Japanese which quickly got translated in the rumor-hungry U.S. tech blogosphere. Now an actual wireless carrier has confirmed the specs.
The Optimus G Pro will feature a 5-inch screen with a 1080p high definition display resolution. The processor is a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro at 1.7GHz assisted by 2GB of RAM. Confirming what the slide posted last week showed, the Optimus G Pro will come in two colors, Indigo Black and Platinum White. The Optimus G Pro will sport a 13-megapixel camera on the back capable of HD video and a 32GB storage capacity with further expansion possible through a microSD card. LG's Optimus G Pro comes with a 3,000mAh battery and clocks in at a rather hefty 160 grams and 10mm thickness.
While owners of the Optimus G have been waiting for an update to Android Jelly Bean (which, we reported last week, will be happening soon), the LG Optimus G Pro will come with Android Jelly Bean (version 4.1) right out of the box.
There are still a few details yet unconfirmed. Does the Optimus G Pro have a front-facing camera, as rumors had it? Will the Optimus G Pro arrive in the United States, and if so, when? Why unveil a new version of the Optimus G when that phone is just beginning to be released in 50 new LTE markets, as we reported yesterday? Will we see the Optimus G Pro at the Mobile World Congress this year?
