Nokia Lumia 920 and 820 Update: Microsoft Windows 8 Phone Global Update Begins

It looks like international Nokia Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 phones are getting a new version of the Microsoft Windows Phone 8 operating system. The update was released in December in the United States and is now slowly being rolled out globally.

The Windows Phone 8 update, firmware version PR1.1, codenamed Portico, should be done rolling out for all Lumia 920s and 820s by the middle of March, and is being done in a phases, so if you have not received a notification yet, be patient.

There are a number of bugs that the Portico update fixes on these Nokia smartphone models, as well as some performance improvements and a few new features which come with PR1.1. First, Portico resolves the random restart bug which has been affecting devices with Microsoft Windows Phone 8, according to the UK site 3G.

Other new features include a new option to send text replies to incoming calls, better battery management, an improved start up sequence, improved Bluetooth, the option to delete messages more than one at a time, and improvements to Internet Explorer. According to Phones Review, some Nokia customers are having problems with their Lumia 920s and Lumia 820s freezing suddenly or hanging up during their phone calls in the United States.

The Nokia Lumia 920 is Nokia's premiere smartphone. Running the Microsoft Windows Phone 8 operating system, it has sold consistently well since it was released in November of last year. The Lumia 820 was released at the same time as the 920 and is a scaled down model of the more expensive Lumia 920. Unique in the market, both smartphones come in several different exterior color options.
