Galaxy Note 8 Vs. iPad Mini: Samsung's Tablet Sports A Better Display

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will be revealed at the Mobile World Congress, a Samsung executive confirmed today, according to Mashable. The smaller variant of the Galaxy Note 10.1 will be a competitor with the Apple iPad mini.

If you're interested in a mini tablet that's not made by Apple, Samsung will be rolling out their competitor next month when the World Mobile Congress takes place starting February 25. How will the Galaxy Note 8 stack up against the market-dominant iPad mini? Let's compare Apple's device with the rumored specs of the Galaxy Note 8.

Speed

Nothing clear has been confirmed for the Galaxy Note 8 as far as processor chipset, but PhonesReview in the United Kingdom suggests it might sport something like the 1.6GHz Samsung Exynox processor. That compared to the A5 1GHz Dual-core processor that runs the iPad mini may make the Galaxy Note 8 a little faster. But we do know that there will be 2GB offRAM on the Galaxy Note 8, which blows the 512MB  on the iPad mini out of the water.

Display

The iPad mini has a 7.9-inch LCD display with a 1024x769 resolution. The Galaxy Note 8 has an ever so slightly larger 8-inch TFT Super Clear LCD display capable of a more stunning 1280x800 pixel resolution. Also, the Galaxy Note 8 screen will be capable of working with the Samsung S Pen for an added bonus.

Camera

There's not much different between the two competitors here. The Galaxy Note 8 will have a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, compared to the 5-megapixel back facing camera and 1.2-megapixel front camera on the iPad mini.

Size

The iPad mini is currently 200mm x 134.7mm x 7.2mm. Compare that to the slightly bigger 211.3mm x 136.3mm x 7.95mm Galaxy Note 8. It is also likely that the Galaxy Note 8 will be slightly heavier too, as the iPad mini weighs about 310g compared to the 330g Samsung competitor.

Others Differences

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will probably be running Android 4.2, compared to the iPad mini which has the most recent edition of iOS, version 6. This will probably be the greatest breaking point between the two mini tablets, as some people would much rather have an Android tablet and others are Apple-faithful. The only other difference is that the iPad mini comes with 16, 32, or 64GB non-expandable hard drives, while the Galaxy Note 8 will be 16 or 32GB, but with a microSD card slot to add up to 32GB more.
