Grand Theft Auto 5 is inching closer to its release date of Sept. 17 on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but one of the main features of the game, Grand Theft Auto Online, will not be available until Oct 1. However, that has not stopped developer Rockstar from giving fans new information about the mode, as Leslie Benzies, the president of Rockstar North, told GameInformer (via IGN) several interesting tidbits. Benzies revealed that Rockstar may include previous settings from past games, such as San Andreas or Liberty City into Grand Theft Auto Online, as Rockstar's dream is "to create an entire Grand Theft Auto world that consists of everything we've done or are going to do then let the player freely move between them."

This would be a huge addition to the game, as players could explore past areas from the series and commit some new chaos within them. Plus, users will be able to team up with their friends online and explore places together that were previously only available as a single player experience. Benzies hopes that Grand Theft Auto Online is able to capture the feeling that Rockstar has been dreaming of since Grand Theft Auto 3:

"We've always wanted to create a world with the complexity of a single-player Grand Theft Auto game with the addition of real players. We wanted a world where people could spend years without getting bored of playing the same content over and over...I think we've managed to achieve something very close to our dream."

Several gameplay details were also explained by Benzies. Over 500 missions will be initially available in Grand Theft Auto Online, and players can partake in both solo and multiplayer missions online. The world of Grand Theft Auto Online will initially only be populated by friends and crew members before other players at a similar skill level will start appearing in the world. In between missions players will have to watch out for these rival players, as they can rob players and kill them for whatever cash they have on them at the time. However, players can seek revenge against their attacks by placing bounties on their head. Players will be able to earn cash by completing missions as diverse as heists, multiplayer deathmatches and races. The crew leader will decide which members of the crew will get what cut of the loot, so players should always try to do their best and rise in the ranks.
