Grand Theft Auto 5 might not have been a part of Gamescom 2013, but the game has still managed to make an impact during this exciting week in video games. It was recently announced that customers who preorder the digital PlayStation 3 version of the game from the PlayStation Store will get a massive 75 percent discount on a previous game from developer Rockstar, and now with a new update to the PlayStation Store users can take advantage of this offer starting Thursday.

IGN has confirmation from Rockstar that the game will become available on midnight on the game's release date of Sept. 17. However, that is midnight Pacific Standard Time, meaning those on the East Coast may as well preorder the game and pick it up at midnight release events rather than wait until 3 a.m. to download the game. However, both scenarios are preferable over the usual PlayStation Network release schedule of Tuesday afternoons.

It remains to be seen how many Grand Theft Auto 5 fans will take advantage of this offer, and what games they'll choose to buy with the extremely discounted price. However, there's one factor that may affect how many users buy the digital version. Fans who would be most excited about this deal have most likely already preordered a physical copy of the game. With less than a month away from the title's release, there may not have been time for many users to take advantage of this deal and reap the savings.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is one of the most anticipated games of the year, and it figures to be in the running for game of the year and biggest launch of the year. The game takes players to Los Santos and Blaine County, where users get to use three different playable protagonists to explore the world of the game and perform dangerous missions. In addition, the game will have an online mode in which players form crews with other gamers and can explore the world of Grand Theft Auto together, complete with different sets of missions and competitions between rival crews in the form of races and deathmatch modes. However, Grand Theft Auto 5 Online will not be available at launch, and will be released on Oct. 1.
