HTC One Google Play edition
The Google Play editions of the popular Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One smartphones were created for one main reason: to give fans of the devices an option that runs stock Android and can be upgraded quickly. Now that Android 4.4 KitKat has been released, let's take a look at when these two devices will get the new operating system.
Google revealed Android 4.4 KitKat Thursday, and while the operating system boasts some exciting new features, it can currently only be found on the Google Nexus 5. Luckily, it won't be too long before the HTC One Google Play edition sees the update.
When the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One Google Play Editions came out, they promised the "nexus experience," meaning that both handsets would get updates as if they were part of Google's very own brood of smartphones. That has proved to be true, as the most recent Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update for the Google Play edition of the Samsung Galaxy S4 shows.
It was only a matter of time before we saw how quickly Google would update the Google Play editions of third party phones, and now we have it: The HTC One Google Play edition (along with its Samsung Galaxy S4 cousin) are getting Android 4.3, the latest operating system from the Mountain View giant.
Despite Android 4.3 having been announced and already released on a few Nexus devices, owners of the HTC One Google Play edition will be disappointed to know that they will have to wait longer. All we know now is that the update should be coming "soon," according to Google.
