Holmqvist used the most frequently broken piece of golf equipment to remove poison from a black widow spider bite on her ankle after chasing the spider away with her club. After falling over in pain, Holmqvist got back up and finished her round on Tuesday, ending the day with a 74 and a story to tell the whole world.
Tiger Woods committed to three more tournaments this season on Tuesday. He said via his personal website that he will compete in the Match Play Championship next week in Arizona, the Honda Classic in Florida and the Cadillac Championship at Doral in consecutive weeks. The former U.S. Secretary of State accidentally hit a fan who was standing on the sidelines with a golf ball and gave the woman a bloody nose, the New York Times reports.
Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps may be taking up another profession. The retired swimmer signed a deal with PING on Wednesday. Phelps was outfitted with customized clubs before the Pro-Am contest at Scottsdale TPC just before the Waste Management Phoenix Open there this weekend. Phelps will also appear on a reality show on the Golf Channel for his efforts, and said he would love to compete in the Olympics for golf someday.
