Android 4.3
The Samsung Galaxy S4 runs top-of-the-line Android software right out of the box, but Galaxy S4 owners interested in broadening their experiences outside of Samsung's TouchWiz user interface now have two options to consider: Android 4.3, and for those on Verizon, stock Android 4.2.2.
Interested Samsung Galaxy S4 owners can now have one more thing to hold over rival HTC One fans: Android 4.3.
Here's some tantalizing news for owners of the older Google-endorsed handset, the Galaxy Nexus: Android 4.3 might be on the way.
HTC is currently riding as high as it can on its new flagship handset, the One, but it wasn't too long ago the company produced one the of best Android smartphones to have ever been assembled: the One X. If a new, rather dubious report is to be believed, HTC will continue its support for the smartphone with an Android 4.3 update during the fourth quarter of 2013.
The next version of Android was a no-show at the tech giant's recent Google I/O, leading tech speculation to run high as to what exactly Google is cooking up. While many initially expected Google to roll out an overhauled Android 5.0, it's looking more and more like Android 4.3 will be the next version.
Samsung's Galaxy S4 won't be its only flagship smartphone this year. Anticipation for the next Galaxy Note phablet is also high, and ahead of its rumored fall release, the device seems to have been spotted in some AnTuTu benchmarks running Android 4.3.
A new AnTuTu benchmark purportedly from the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 3 hits nearly 28000, slightly higher than even the Exynos 5 Octa version of the Galaxy S4. It also reveals the device runs Android 4.3 with a 1.6GHz processor.
It's beginning to look unlikely that Google will show off a fresh version of Android or a new Nexus handset at this year's Google I/O conference, but a new report states that Android 4.3 will be debuting on a new Nexus 4 in June.
The keynote address at Google I/O 2013 begins at noon EDT, and there are plenty of possible announcements. Watch it live here.
A week before Google’s I/O conference, clues indicating online tests of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean appear to be popping up on some websites.
Android 4.3 is still a twinkle in a developer’s eye, but there could be clues to what to expect in the next iteration of the open-source operating system.
It was rumored Google’s next mobile platform would be the Android 5.0, however, a report states the search engine website will continue with the Jelly Bean name.
