Bestselling author Dan Brown, perhaps best known for his book The Da Vinci Code, has revealed that he will be releasing a new book in May. The book, which will be the fourth novel in the crime series following Robert Langdon, a Harvard symbologist, will be called Inferno.
According to the BBC, Brown said the book was inspired by Italian poet Dante's classic by the same name, Inferno. Brown's Inferno will be set in Italy and will see lead character Langdon swept into "a harrowing world centered on one of history's most enduring and mysterious literary masterpieces."
In an interview with the BBC, Brown said, "Although I studied Dante's Inferno as a student, it wasn't until recently that I came to appreciated the enduring influence of Dante's work on the modern world." He added, "With this new novel, I am excited to take readers on a journey deep into this mysterious realm...a landscape of codes, symbols, and more than a few secret passageways."
Like his previous novel, The Lost Symbol, Brown revealed the name of his latest work through a series of post on social media site, including Facebook and Twitter. On Tuesday, the author's Facebook page wrote, "Help reveal the title of Dan Brown's new novel! Then, share this post for all your friends and fellow fans," along with a link to a story by the 'Today' show.
Brown finally revealed the name of his new work on Wednesday, but will continue providing clues to his fans for more information about Inferno.
The BBC reported that Brown's past three Langdon novels have sold millions of copies worldwide and each have had a film adaptation. The first two novels, The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons have starred Tom Hanks in the lead role of the film adaptation, while his third book, The Lost Symbol, is still in development.
Inferno will be released on May 14, 2013.
