A few weeks ago, fans sent a petition to the White House asking the executive branch to build a Death Star. The House White rejected the proposal with a witty response. However, it seems that some fans did not find the US government's retort sufficient and are "striking back" with their own response.
The official Star Wars blog has issue a response of its own. The release initiates with the following line, "The overwhelming military superiority of the Galactic Empire has been confirmed once again by the recent announcement by the President of the United States that his nation would not attempt to build a Death Star, despite the bellicose demands of the people of his tiny, aggressive planet. "
The post adds, "Representatives on behalf of the nation-state leader from the unimaginatively named planet refused to acknowledge the obvious cowardice of their choice, preferring instead to attribute the decision to fiscal responsibility."
The article also includes quotes from fictitious characters of the Star Wars universe including Admiral Conan Motti and Governor Wihuff Tarkin.
The original petition received over 25,000 signatures in 30 days and as promised, the White House responded promptly. In its original response, President Obama's office utilized clever references to the Star Wars movies and included slight jabs and jokes at the proposal. Among the main reasons given for not taking on the construction of the Death Star include "Why would we spend countless taxpayer dollars on a Death Star with a fundamental flaw that can be exploited by a one-man starship?" and "The Administration does not support blowing up planets."
